I watched the trees
shed their leaves.
Sliently.
Bravely.
Gracefully
they just
let them go.
And I saw the sun
sink low,
and the sky
reached out
a golden pink
to caress
the empty trees.
I know
life
has come calling
once more
to take my leaves
away.
Forgive me,
beautiful sky,
if I’m not as brave
as the trees.
But here,
I open my hands
and welcome
winter.
Tell me
how the scent
of spring
is not
that far away.
